The Off Gridder is a modular biomass refinery that turns wood chunks, wood chips, pellets, and certain types of agricultural waste into a usable fuel gas, much like natural gas. This fuel gas is called woodgas, syngas or biogas and you can use it to power engines and electric generators, turbines, boilers, solid oxide fuel cells and research scale Fischer Tropsch reactors.

How it works…

Trees and other plants act as giant solar batteries. They are built from sunlight, carbon and hydrogen. Plants are living hydrocarbons. When they are thermally decomposed (high heat, no oxygen) they break down into their most basic elements. In this case it’s hydrogen and burnable carbon gases as well as inert nitrogen. This process is called gasification. The Off Gridder is a gasifier. This mix of wood gases are also called producer gas, town gas & syngas. Wood gas can be used to power engines and generators directly. This technology has been in use for over 150 years now. It’s not free energy or suppressed technology, it just isn’t well understood or even known by most in this century.

Configurability

Every biomass energy project is different. Thats why we designed the Off Gridder to be easily configured for a variety of fuels and applications. The Off Gridder is a residential scale unit for every day use or for light industrial duty with a custom ceramic hearth. It was designed for workday use. Batch feeds of several hours and workday automation of 8-12 hours. It is not a 24/7 unit, nor is it designed to dispose of tons of waste. Those duties are for larger gasifiers at much higher price points.
